Mini Dresses

Mini Dresses has been Boston’s best kept secret for years. Over a slew of EPs and singles mostly recorded at home on laptops, the band has quietly crafted an impressive catalog of dreamy indie pop songs. Their latest release is a full-length, self titled ten song collection available September 15th on Joy Void. The band experiments with a range of sounds - the hazy, slow burning “Fantasy Nails” allows vocalist Lira Mondal’s signature voice to take center stage, while the quick and jangly “Everywhere I Go” recalls the indie-pop of the stars of the Sarah Records catalog.

Mini Dresses started as a home recording project between longtime songwriting partners Lira Mondal and Caufield Schnug in the summer of 2012 in Austin, TX. After relocating to Boston to pursue their respective careers, they started playing shows with Luke Reed on drums. In the last five years, they have played frequently on the East Coast, opening for such acts as Deerhunter, Weyes Blood, Fear of Men, Chastity Belt, Palehound, Dick Diver, Tacocat, and many others.

Their first self-titled full-length consists of songs from about two years of recording with engineer Ian Doerr. Taking shape in spaces as varied as a nail salon basement to an expansive live room in a warehouse on the outskirts of Boston, the group took advantage of rarely used effects and tape machines. Lyrical themes of the album involve the interior lives of women, their daydreams, while many songs capture moments of technological breakdown.
